Task 2.1 ~ Research into existing products - Fifa 12 Christmas advert

This advert is another for another football game. It shows 5 worldwide famous footballers. They are all complaining about rubbish christmas presents they have recieved. This is a common convention of christmas so it will appeal to the humourous side of people. In turn this will make the game appear more likable through the advert. Also the 5 footballers shown are all from 4 different countries. This will increase the popularity of the game within Spain, England, Australia and Brazil which are the nationalities of the footballers in the advert.

Christmas bells can be heard as the footballers are talking. This is another common convention of a Christmas advert and because the advert fits the season it becomes more appealing as a Christmas present. This appeal is further enhanced due to the successful footballers that are endorsing this product. There is also use of gameplay footage in the advert as well which entices the audience to it as they can see what the game looks like and what they can experience if they purchase the product.

The implication of this advert is that the game, FIFA 12 is a lot more useful than any of the other presents people may get at Christmas. This is shown by the 'gifts' the footballers have recieved. They are all saying they don't want a certain present or are not sure what they are going to use them for. Towards the end of the advert they are similtaneously saying "All I want for Christmas, is the ball." This refernces the football game that is being advertised.

Other common conventions of video game adverts that are present through this video game advert include the use of company logos. The PlayStation 3 logo is shown at the start to signal which game console you can buy it on and predominantley who the advert is mainly advertising for. The age rating is shown on screen during the gamplay footage. The commonly seen and used logo "PEGI 3" means that the game is suitable for all those above the age of 3 years old.
